Fulfillment

This might be why you're in a funk.

I recently sat down with a client who said: "Laine, I have the nicest condo, I have a great truck, I have the most amazing girlfriend, I have a great work mentor and I'm closing deals left and right. But, I'm always so unfulfilled. You know what my real struggle is? I have destination envy."

You would be shocked to know how many clients I sit down with on a weekly basis that end up in tears, but because it's the first time they are really processing what it is they want.

So many of us lack fulfillment in our present-day, because we are so focused on what's down the line...the question of: what we could possibly have in the future.

We can make 200 blog posts about how to deal with this, but let's start here. Let's ask ourselves the question: Are my desires killing my joy?

If the answer is yes, we have to take some time to assess what's important to us. Why are we not happy and what do I need to do, or not do, in order to find that joy again?

Sometimes it's as simple as just taking a break. We've talked a lot about simplicity. This is one of those areas where it can just be that simple. Taking a break often gives us clarity of mind and perspective on how to move forward.

Are you feeling unfulfilled and need to talk to someone about how to change your perspective, so that you can experience great fulfillment?

Give us a call, we'd love to walk you through that.

Consistency

Usually, we change the name of our clients, to protect the innocent, but I have permission to not change this guy's name.

Today, let’s talk about Juno. Three years ago, Juno's boss threw Juno my way and he said: "Hey Laine, he is an A-lister, but he just needs a little help.”

It was great getting to know Juno. After our first call I was a little skeptical about the A-lister thing, 😉 but he has since proven otherwise.

When we first met, Juno needed some help with structuring his time, working out the kinks of communication and finding a balance between being cutthroat in sales and also being kind and professional.

Since our first meeting, his skills in these areas have improved so much, that he’s making more money and is being recognized more widely in his industry. After sitting down and assessing where his growth has come from, I noticed a common theme. I looked at all my other clients as well and found the one thread that's the same among them all:

The people who show up for their sessions every single week and are consistent, are the ones who achieve their goals the most.

I've been working with Juno for almost three years. We've had a coaching session almost every week. Do you know he has never missed one? That's rare and it also goes to show why he's been so successful

In which areas of your life do you need consistency? It’s when we are consistent and when we show up that we have the results we're looking for.

If you are looking for more consistency in your work, let us know. We would love to help you set up rhythms that work for you.

Avoiding Burnout

Your work isn't burning you out. It's a lack of variety in your life.

Burnout is a legitimate thing; it has its own medical code. In the coaching world this is something we hear about every day.  It’s rampant.  The good news is, there are solutions.

There are two main things that cause burnout: stress at work, or boredom. Today we are addressing the latter.

You need something that excites you. When we try things that are either challenging and new, or get involved in an old hobby that we’ve rediscovered, it reinvigorates us.It gives us the power that we need to improve in all areas of our lives. All of a sudden, the mundane doesn't feel so mundane because we see it through a different lens.

What are you doing to break out of the mundane? You don't want to feel burnt out, you don't want to feel stress, and the beautiful thing is that you have control over that.

Take control over this today and pick something that's new and exciting in your life.

Do you know someone that's struggling from burnout? Share this blog post with them and then, maybe the two of you can try something new together.

If you need any help figuring out your new thing, contact us and we'd be glad to help.

Objective Outlook

I recently sat down with Dave. Dave is a client of ours and just like every one of his sessions, he sat down and went from zero to 60 in seconds.

He always comes knowing exactly what he wants to address. Before I can even get a sip of my coffee, he is eight paragraphs into all the nuts and bolts of what he's working on.

Dave is a master strategizer and a master implementer. He does not need my help with any of that. What Dave doesn't have though is somebody objective.

As leaders and as employees, we're all very emotionally invested in our work and that's good, we should be. The problem is that because of our emotional investment,  we can't clearly think about things the way we need to.

A coach comes in to help people see things that they're missing. Have you ever been talking to a family member or a friend and they ask you a question that makes you think "Why didn't I think of that sooner?"

That's because you're in the thick of it. We all need someone objective outside of our organization to help us navigate through the nitty-gritty details. Coaching sessions are confidential, therefore:

  1. The person you're talking with has no ties to your people or your projects and so no matter what you say, nothing is going to get back to your company.

  2. The awesome ideas you come up with during your session, you get to take back to the team and take all the credit for.

If you're looking for an objective source to help you navigate through things at work, contact us and we'll be glad to set something up on the calendar.
